FAQ

General FAQ’s

Q: What grade levels do you tutor?

A: We tutor students in preschool through high school.

Q: How do you pair students and tutors together?

A: We pair tutors with students based on time zone, availability, and the subject they need tutoring. If the tutor we pair you with does not work out, we are more than happy to pair you with a new one.

Q: How long is each session?

A: We ask sessions to be once a week, ranging from fifteen minutes to a full hour based on the student’s needs and the tutor’s availability.

Q: Where will tutoring take place?

A: Sessions will take place through Zoom. The link will be provided when you sign up.

Q: Can tutoring sessions take place in person?

A: Tutoring sessions through our organization must take place virtually through Zoom. We do not allow in-person tutoring sessions to ensure the safety of both our tutors and students.

Student FAQ’s

Q: How do I enroll my child?

A: Please complete the Student Registration Form in the menu under “Students” or click on the “Student Registration” button on the home page. Once you complete the form, our team will find a tutor that matches your needs, and a tutor will then reach out!

Q: How do you ensure my child is paired with a qualified tutor?

A: When tutors apply, we ask them to submit their GPA and their experience with tutoring/teaching to ensure that they are qualified to tutor for our organization. If there are any problems with a tutor, we ask that you email us so we can remedy the issue.

Q: What is the fee per tutoring session? Are there fees for your other services?

A: There is no fee for any of our services.

Q: How long does it take to get paired with a tutor?

A: Once you have signed up, we will immediately begin searching for a tutor that meets your needs. While we are looking for a tutor, we will send you a terms and conditions sheet. Once this is filled out and a tutor is found, we will give the tutor your information, and it is their job to reach out to you within a week of getting your information

Tutor FAQ’s

Q: How can I become a tutor?

A: To become a tutor, please complete the Tutor Registration Form located in the menu under “Tutors” or click on the “Tutor Registration” button on the home page. You are notified of your acceptance via email within a week of applying.

Q: Who can become a tutor?

A: High school and college/university students can become tutors!

Q: Can I become both a tutor and a student?

A: Yes! You just need to complete both the Student and Tutor Registration Forms.

Q: What if I still want to be a part of the organization, but I don’t want to tutor?

A: That is completely okay! We offer other opportunities for students who want to get involved and try to expand those opportunities as much as possible. You could be a tutor for up to two hours during our ‘Office Hours’ (once or twice a month depending on the time of year), co-host or lead an Art Class, lead a storytime class during the summer, or send in video recordings of stories for our YouTube channel.

If you are interested in any of these options, please reach out to the BST Team via email.

Q: How long does it take to get paired with a student?

A: Once you have signed up, we will review your application, and a decision will be sent to you via email. Accepted tutors will be sent the terms and conditions sheet to be filled out ASAP. Once this is filled out and a student that meets your preferences is found, we will give you the student’s information. It is then your job to reach out to the student within a week of getting their information.

Q: Can I get service hours/community service as a tutor?

A: Yes! After each tutoring session, you must fill out a reflection form. It is a quick survey, but we use it to track your hours. You can request a copy of your logged service hours at any time by emailing us!

Q: How flexible are sessions, canceling, etc?

A: Session dates and times are agreed upon by both the tutor and the student. This way both parties can pick what works best for them. As for canceling, we ask that notices are given a week in advance if a session will be missed and that it is rescheduled for another time that week. This, of course, does not apply to emergency situations. Again if there are any reoccurring problems, please reach out to us!

Q: How do I find support as a tutor?

A: We have many different ways for tutors to find support. Tutors are provided a ‘Tutor Master Resources’ sheet that contains advice, lesson planning examples, and content for them to use with their students. They are also provided with ‘BST’s Tutor Handbook’ which contains expectations, policies, and the logistics regarding tutoring. We also upload YouTube videos* for tutors to watch which explain (in a sense) how to be a tutor. Our office hours can also be used as a time for tutors to ask questions, seek support, etc. Lastly, tutors may always reach out to us via email with comments, questions, concerns, or to set up a call with one of our board members.

*YouTube Videos are not yet uploaded to our page

Q: I still have a question. How do I find an answer?

A: Please refer to our chat, email us, or contact us through our social media.
