Founder and President
Rachel is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she plans on majoring in political science with a minor in education and public policy. Rachel is a recent graduate of Wheeling High School where she was active in the education pathway. She has interned for a local middle school and currently teaches music lessons to beginners and tutors elementary school students in her community. Rachel also served as the Treasurer and Vice-President of the Wheeling High School chapter of the National Honor Society. Rachel strives to provide an equitable education to students all over the world.
Co-founder and Vice President
Stephanie is a freshman at Illinois State University where she will be majoring in Secondary History Education. She was highly invested in the teaching program at Wheeling High School, where she interned in local elementary, middle, and high schools. She also has three years of numerous tutoring experiences. Stephanie is employed at Organic Life, Nino’s Pizzaria, and just ended her three year position at the Little Wildcat Daycare. She aims to provide as many students as possible with support and resources, so they may grow as both students and individuals. Stephanie has realized it is not a specific grade she loves, but the act of teaching that she cherishes.
Sophianne is a freshman at Rice University. She plans to combine her love for math, biology, and physics as a bioengineering major. Her many other interests include cross-country and track, playing the violin and piano, and, of course, tutoring. In her free time, you can find her hiking, journaling, and reading. Sophianne has had prior experience volunteering as a tutor for John Hersey High School and as a TA for her local Chinese school. She strives to help students believe in their ability to achieve academically and extracurricularly, as well as help provide a step-by-step action plan to do so. Sophianne is passionate about using this philosophy to create opportunities to succeed for students around the world through Best Step Tutoring.
Victoria “Benny” Benavides has received a full ride to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and will attend there in the fall. She will be majoring in social work with a minor in philosophy. She attended Wheeling High School and participated in the congressional Debate team, Journalism, the law pathway and AVID. Benny enjoys painting, sculpting, and hiking. In her free time, she enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee on sunny days with her friends. Benny is passionate about making education equitable especially for underrepresented students.
Adithya is a junior who believes in the power of education. He began his journey in education as a tutor, and is now pursuing medical school. Adithya is a nationally ranked debater and an avid STEM student. In his free time, Adithya works out and practices baseball which he currently plays with his high school. Adithya has also designed numerous websites including a nationally acknowledged debate website which sets the standards for statistics and rankings. Adithya hopes to help students connect with their tutors as easily as possible through a redesigned and updated web interface.
Selina is a Junior at William Fremd High School and is a member of the National Honors Society, badminton team, and Public Forum Debate Team. During her debate season sophomore year, she went to the state semifinals with her debate partner. Outside of school, Selina plays piano and volunteers for a non-profit organization in order to teach piano to younger students over Zoom. She has played piano for 11 years and passed the Level 12 AIM Exam last year. In her free time, Selina has a passion for photography, digital art, fitness, and baking. She is passionate about working with BST to ensure that all students have quality education and can excel.
Sam is attending the university of Illinois at urbana Champaign, where she is a James scholar. She is a political science major with a minor in Spanish. Sam is involved in the ultimate frisbee club, pre law club, and Latino Student Association at her college. She’s been volunteering in tutoring opportunities for over five years from tutoring at school, the public library, and online. She also volunteers a the CU home in Champaign. Sam has worked at babysitting and dog sitting. In her free time she enjoys reading scientific fiction and playing water polo. Sam wants to become a lawyer and help advocate for immigrants and those who have language barriers in the United States.
Social Media Manager
Amelia is a senior at Fremd high school and is passionate about making education an accessible and enjoyable experience for everyone. In the future, she plans to pursue a career in teaching and she practices these passions at school by partaking in an internship program that allows her to shadow high school teachers. She’s also Student Council President and a member of the National Honors Society. Another passion of her’s is Public Forum debate, and she and her partner won first place at state in their freshman year. Outside of extracurriculars at school, Amelia also works to help teach martial arts to children at her local Tae Kwon Do school. She believes that education opportunities should be available for everyone and hopes to make that possible through BST!
Jackie is a senior at John Hersey High School. She is a member of National Honor Society, the World Language Honor Society, and is President of her school’s Latinx club. She has been tutoring for about four years and loves every single moment of it. Jackie is passionate about helping within her hispanic community. She has created a non-profit organization that helps and collects hygiene products that are sent to immigration detention centers in Texas. Currently, she is interning at an immigration law office and aids in legal work within. Jackie wants to inform underserved communities by providing educational support and information that they would not have otherwise. Through BST, she wants to extend that helping hand to those who most need it!
Adrianna is a senior at Sidney Lanier High School. She is a member of National Honor Society, President of the TAFE chapter at her school, Secretary of student council, and manages multiple school sport teams. She has been tutoring for about two years, and loves the thrill of teaching. She also teaches at her local elementary school through her school’s education endorsement. After High School, Adrianna will graduate with a teacher assistant certification and hopes to use that as a way to gain experience as she majors in secondary education during college. She hopes to obtain her masters in secondary education with a focus on ELA, and teach 10th-12th grade English. In her free time, Adrianna loves to read and write, as well as binge watch Netflix shows. Adrianna hopes to change the educational system little by little as she goes through her own educational journey.
